Robotic advancements continue to bring robots closer to human lives and integrate them into all aspects of life and work. The automation of a range of jobs that were previously handled by humans is what robotic advancements are all about.

Robotics technology has progressed from research laboratories to new areas of application. Robots assist people in every type of operation, from self-driving automobiles to automating complicated processes and lifting heavy machinery.

In this post, we’ll go over the five most recent robot trends in 2021 that you should be aware of.

Recent Robotic Innovations

1. Saul Robot

The newest staff member at the US Air Force Hospital Langley, stands 5 feet 2 inches tall. It does not really have a commanding presence, however, after a few minutes, his impact has the capability to save countless lives throughout the world. The 633rd Medical Group was given a germ-zapping robot named “Saul”, which utilises the power of technology to fight diseases like Ebola.

The Saul Robot was designed to help in the battle against deadly diseases such as the Ebola virus. The Air Force deployed this robot to neutralize the virus in places/rooms where the relief workers remain quarantined.

Developed by Xenex, Saul uses a strong beam of intense UV radiation to eliminate any traces of the virus. It dissolves and weakens the cell wall of the virus, leading to breakdown of the wall, and the virus cannot survive.

2. Luka Robot

Do you wish the kids could read more? Or do you, as a school student, wish you could have someone read you a book? Luka, a multilingual reading buddy, can assist you with the task! Luka not only reads, but he also sings, plays, and communicates. Luka is a reading robot who is capable of reading picture books aloud when they are placed in front of him.

Ling Technology Co. Ltd (Ling Tech), a Chinese company founded in 2016, has developed this AI-powered robot. Jibo, the world’s first social robot, and Luka, an AI reading robot are both developed by Ling Tech.

Luka has read over 20,000 books in English and 70,000 in Chinese! He’s obviously a good reader. He has the appearance of an owl, with large round eyes that he uses to read and flash Chinese characters. You may read and record any picture book, and Luka will read it in your voice, in addition to the books that have been pre-stored in Luka’s Cloud Library.

3. Cruzr Robot

Cruzr is a humanoid service robot that’s designed to help businesses extend their capabilities by keeping consumers and employees connected to the information they need. The robot has a moveable design that allows it to move about a workplace or even an airport terminal. It also has a large screen that can provide users with visual information.

Cruzr is designed by Ubtech Robotics and is primarily intended to enhance a company’s customer service. In a hotel or airport lobby, as well as in a store or at an office premises, it can work anywhere efficiently. It can help customers right from the beginning of their trip by giving all of the required assistance and information. Ubtech’s U-SLAM system also enables it to locate and map its environment in order to guide customers and clients effectively.

4. Inflatable Robots

NASA interns Chuck Sullivan and Jack Fitzpatrick are developing inflatable soft robots to explore Mars. These soft robots are composed of elastic rubber that is partially built using a 3D printing mould. The robots’ soft bodies allow them to flex and bend without causing damage to their internal mechanics.

The flexible bodies of these robots also allow them to navigate rough terrain, improve their range of motion, and shrink in size to match their environment. “The robot can flex and relax, much like a human muscle,” NASA adds, owing to the inflatable structure. Unlike typical stiff robots, these characteristics make the robot resilient to damage.

5. Picoh Robot

Picoh is a programmable robot with an expressive tiny robot head that can become as intelligent as you make it. Picoh is a follow-up from the developers of award-winning Ohbot, the school-friendly programmable robot head.

The robot features an expressive face that utilizes Pixel-Into-Face technology to represent a range of emotions, a color-changing base, and a touch-sensitive nose, making it lively and interactive. Picoh can receive real-time updates from users, allowing the system to be modified as per requirements, with a few code modifications.

Researchers are attempting to make robots not just more advanced and competent, but also more human-like. They are trying to provide robots the capacity to sense and recognise temperature changes, as well as integrate emotional quotient and other abilities. They’re also working on robotic skin, which will let robots recognize touch, temperature change, and other senses.

There has been an enormous growth in research and development carried out by various organizations and universities in the domain of robotics. Various studies predict that robots could replace 20 million human employees globally by 2030.

As a result, such developments as mentioned above are inevitable, and we should expect to see more of them in the future, perhaps even better than these.
